About
Sew Ho Studios officially started in November 2020.
Nikki and Kate had worked together for years while running their own businesses.
Nikki started Pink Nik Designs in 2006 starting in a wee workshop in Grangemouth, then to a bigger workshop in Falkirk, then finally settling in Polmont. She specialised in clothing printing and embroidery, doing everything from workwear, equestrian designs (saddle pads, numnahs, blankets and so on) stag and hen do t-shirts, as well as t-shirts for other events bot big and small.
Kate formed Kate Rose Designs in 2011 based out of Falkirk, but travelling around Central Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh to see clients. She specialised in tailoring, bridal alterations, celebration wear (First Holy Communion’s, Gala day’s and more) and clothing alterations, like mending zips and sorting hems.
After working on some projects together and as covid started they decided to join forces, support each other and change things around.
After finding the studio in Abbeymount, they quickly got set-up and are keen to work on projects of any size. To supply clothing that supports the environment and garment workers. To teach people about the benefits of mending clothing and reusing clothing and ethically sourcing them.
The values for Sew Ho’s is Creativity, Education and Wellbeing.
– Creativity: Using a wide range of techniques to achieve our clients goals, drawing on over a combined 40 years experience of clothing, tailoring, quality control and garment decoration, Sew Ho’s has a wealth of knowledge. They are keen though to work with others in industry and the community.
– Education: The knowledge available from their various backgrounds, they are keen to share and educate. Nikki coming from an academic background via Heriot Watt studying tailoring, pattern cutting, production and quality control. Kate coming through academia and working in a variety of industry roles, which include theatre costuming, tailoring and bridal. Using all this knowledge and sharing it with their clients and the community to work with projects and individuals and to achieve creative and quality final outcomes.
– Wellbeing: Having been self employed for nearly 20 years and knowing that running a creative business can be lonely and stressful, Nikki and Kate want wellbeing for themselves and all those they work with to be an important and key aspect of the journey together.
